Many university students who live in shared living spaces have a shared laundry room. This means that residents need to travel a certain distance to the laundry room with their laundry products as well as their laundry. Many people try to reduce the load by buying smaller containers for their detergent, softener, powder, etc. However, currently these products are most commonly stored in separate containers, which works storage wise but becomes uncomfortable during movement due to having multiple things to carry, their weight when full and badly designed handles or other features to assist carrying.

The struggle of this experience which happens (8-10) a week according to my questionnaire, suggests a need for a solution. The solution should be a container which allows storage for all laundry products while not being too heavy and inconvenient to carry. It should still optimize the pouring of the interior product as well as allow the measuring of this to reduce waste.

Current situation
Students at university use shared laundry rooms which are in a different location than their rooms
Users must carry dirty laundry as well as detergent products in reusable containers
Time spent travelling is inconvenient, especially if location is outside, in bad weather
Existing products are bulky, heavy and do not consider transportability
Users often overdose laundry products which is not sustainable and can cause issues for machines and clothes
Containers must be chemically resistant to the basic detergent/powder and durable for movement and storage

Current problem
Students which live in university dorms often experience issues with inefficiency and ergonomic discomfort when transporting and using their laundry products. Existing solutions often prioritize storage rather than biomechanics, and the product when being transported. This results in physical strain, inconvenience, disregarding the measuring of detergent, which makes the entire process of doing the laundry less effective. Overall, as many students have shared laundry rooms, this experience occurs often. This impacts the overall wellbeing of a student and their satisfaction with accommodation. Having to go back and forth because a student has multiple products can be time consuming and draining, which many students cannot afford when considering their study-heavy schedules. Products benign designed for stationary home use make this situation harder, lacking portability, ergonomic handling and impractical dosing features.
